Ramayan

First Episode

1)       Dasharatha was the king of Ayodhya, a beautiful kingdom. The king had three queens named Kaushalya, Kaikeyee and Sumitra. They had no son. So they lived a sorrowful life.
2)       One day king Dasharatha went on hunting. He heard the sound of filling a pitcher with water. He took it for a deer drinking water. Aiming of that sound, he cast a sound piercing arrow.
3)       That arrow killed Sindhu, son of a blind sage. Actually Sindhu had gone to fatch water for his blind parents.
4)       Restless king Dasharatha carried Sindhu’s dead body to his parents. Angry blind sage cursed Dasharatha, “You will die of son’s grief like us”.
5)       King sought family priest sage Basistha’s advice. The sage said, “This curse means you will have you. You bring sage Rishyashringha and perform a religious sacrifice. You queens will have sons.”



1)       As per order of king Dasharatha, sage Rishyashringha was brought to the kingdom with honour.
2)       Heperformed religious sacrifice for having son, for a year. From the sacred five pit emerged a Goddess. She handed Dasharatha a plate of sweet rice porridge.
3)       That sweet rice porridge Dasharatha gave his queens to eat.
4)       In due course of time the three queens gave birth to four sons.
5)       Queen Koushalya’s son was Ram, Kaikayee’s son was Bharat, Sumitra gave birth to two sons name Lakshman and Shatrughan.
6)       Soon the princes under the training of family preceptor Bashistha became expert in weaponry.



1)       Sage Viswamitra came to Dasharatha’s court and asked for Ram and Lakshman. Demons have been disturbing in his religious rites. King did not want to send Ram and Lakshman.
2)       After a lot of persuasions, the sage convinced Dasharatha. The sage set out with Ram and Lakshman.
3)       On the way when Taraka, a female cannibal attacked them, Ram killed her with lightening arrow.
4)       And when the religious rites slarted again, the demons came running to destroy the sages religious rites. Fierce fight took place. At last Ram and Lakshman defeated them ad the burnt offering was well finished.
5)       Then along with Ram and Lakshman sage Viswamitra went to Dasharatha.
1)       In ancient time, sage Goutam out of anger cursed his wife Ahalya. He did not spare even Indra, Chandra and hen. Sage Goutam’s course petrified Ahaya at once.
2)       Long Long after this Ram was returning killing female cannibal Taraka. Sage viswamitra and Lakshman were with him.
3)       ‘See Ram, that is sage Goutam’s hermitage. You have a special work there.”
4)       In front of the hermitage of sage Goutama Viswamitra told Ram to place his foot on a big stone among small ones.
5)       At the soft touch of foot of Ram petrified Ahalya was freed from curse and got back her physique. It was a condition of sage Goutama.
6)       After so long a period sage Goutama’s anger pacified and getting back his wife he blessed Ram.


1)       They then came to Mithila of Mithila Janak. He welcomed them. He had a huge bow of Lord Shiva. He said that he would give his daughter to marriage to anyone who could set the string to that bow.
2)       Before Ram many brave youngmen made unsuccessful attempts. But Ram could casily set string to the bow and pulled so strongly that the ‘Haradhanu’ broke into pieces.
3)       Then in the auspicious moment Ram and Sita were married. Urmila, other daughter of Janak was married to Lakshman. Bharat and Shatrughna were married to Janak’s younger brother Krishadhwaj’s tow daughters, Mandavi and Shrutakirti respectively.
4.       King Dasharatha was delighted at the news. He hurriedly came to king Janak at Mithila. The two kings hugged each other.
5.       On the way to Ayodhya Parashuram blocked their path. Parashuram said he would accept Ram as a real valient person if he could set atring to his bow. Ram set string to the bow and Parashuram’s vanity ruined.


Ayodhya Episode

1)       King Dasharatha became old. So he decided to enthrone Ram and tame rest. When he announced the court all accepted his proposal heartily.
2)       Kaikeyee heard this news first from her humpback-maid Manthara and was glad. But Manthara said if Ram became the king it would be bad for her and her son Bharat. She advised her to take two boons from the king tactfully. In one boon Bharat should be made king and in second boon Ram should be sent exile to forest.
3)       At the harmful counsel of the devil hump-back Manthara, Kaikeyee threw away her royal dresses and ornaments. She loosened her hair and lay on the ground. Dasharatha was surprised to see her at that state and asked her the reason.
4)       Kaikeyee said once king promised to give her two boons. She wanted those boons on that day. In one boon Ram should be sent to exile to forest and in another Bharat should be made the king. Despite repeated requests of the king Kaikeyee did not change her mind.

1)       Ram heard everything but was not agitated. He said that his duty is to fulfill the promise made by his father.
2)       Mother Koushalya kept on crying. Ram assured her that foarteen years was not a long period. It would pass like anything.
3)       He got ready to go to the forest. Lakshman and sita wanted to go with him. Ram forbade them but they did not listen to him.
4)       At last taking leave of everybody Ram, Sita and Lakshman left Ayodhya. And started for forest.
5)       Sumantra, the charioteer took them in the chariot and left them beyond the boundary of the kingdom. People of Ayodhya saw them with heavy heart.


1)       Then they reached the kingdom of Shringab. Guhak, the king of Nashad welcomed them with due honour. After a few days he halped them reach other side of the Ganges by boat.
2)       As soon as Sumantra told Dasharatha that he had left them beyond the kingdom, he king died of grief. The curse of the blind sage came true.
3)       As soon as Bharat and Shatrughna heard all about Ayodhya at their maternal uncle’s house, they returned to the kingdom by chariot without any delay.
4)       It did not take them long to know that humpback Manthara’s harmful counsel was behind the incident. Shatrughna held her hair and gave her deserving punishment.
5)       Bharat and Shatrughna went to bring Ram. They met Ram at Chitrakut hill. Despite repeated request Ram did not agree to return.
6)       Being compelled he kept Ram’s wooden sandals on his head and returned to Ayodhya. He placed the wooden sandals on the throne and in the name of Ram, ran the administration.


Aranya Episode

1)       River Godavari flew by the hill. On the bank was forest Panchabati full of flowers. In the forest lived Rad, Lakshman and Sita in a left thatched cottage. On the other side of this forest live Surpanakha sister of Ravana, king of Cannibals.
2)       Female Cannibal Surpanakha one day came in the guise of a beautiful girl and wanted to marry Ram.
3)       Ram said , “Impossible, I am married.” Surpanakha was angry. She came back to her originality and wanted to gobble Sita. Lakshman cut Surponakha’s nose.
4)       The female cannibal went to her two cousin brothers Khar and Dushan in an weeping state and demanded them to take revange of this humiliation.
5)       Khar and Dushan with their companions pounced on Ram and Lakshman. A fierce fight took place. Ram and Lakshman won the fight.



1)       With cut-nose Surponakha then went to her elder brother Ravana. She said, “You are the king of the cannibals. Despite your existence your sister should suffer such humiliation.” Ravana consoled her saying, “Don’t cry I am taking immediately action”.
2)       Ravana ordered Marich, a deceiful cannibal to dance in front of Sita’s cottage, in the guise of a golden deer.
3)       Seeing the golden deer Sita demanded, “I want this deer.” Ram tried best but could not succeed. So he followed deer with bow the arrow.
4)       Marich in disguise of deer played hide and seek game and took Ram deep into the forest. Ram got it within his reach and pierced with arrow. While dying he imitated Ram’s voice and shouted , “Brother Lakshman save me, save me.”
5)       At the oice of Ram Sita was worried and said Lakshman, “Go immediately, your elder brother is in trouble.”



1)       Lakshman said, “Elder brother cannot fall into any danger. It is not wise for me to go away keeping you unprotected in the cottage”. Sita got irritated Lakshman was compelled but before going away he marked a line and told not to go beyond that.
2)       No sooner had Lakshman started than Ravana in the disguise of brahmin begger came to the cottage and begged alms.
3)       Sita forgot Lakshman’s instruction and crossed the line to give alms to Ravana.
4)       Immediately Ravana took Sita into his chariot and started for Lanka. Sita shouted for help.
5)       In her danger an old bird named Jatayu came to help. When attacked Ravana, Ravana cut his wings.



1)       Horrible abducted Sita and drove his chariot in the air. Sita saw some monkeys at the Rishyamukh mountain. She threw her ornaments at them and told them to inform Ram and Lakshman about her abduction by Ravana.
2)       Ram was returning to the cottage after killing Marich. On the way when he met Lakshman, evil thought occurred to his mind. They hurried for the cottage.
3)       They could not find Sita in the cottage. They called Sita by her name and searched for her arround the cottage but in vain.
4)       Ram and Lakshman moved for one end to the other to find Sita. At last they got information about Sita from dying Jatayu. They proceeded towards Rishyamukh mountain.



Kishkindhya Episode

1)       King Bali was the king of Kishkindhya. His brother Sugrib was his rival. For fear of Bali Sugrib along with Hanuman, Jambuban and other friend came to Rishgamukh mountain.
2)       Hanuman saw Ram and Lakshman to come. He greeted them and began to talk.
3)       Then he took them to their leader Sugrib. Surib welcomed them when he knew their identity.
4)       Ram told Sugrib about the abduction of Sita. Sugrib said that he had seen with his own eyes king of the cannibals to run his charist taking Sita therein; these are her ornaments.
5.       Subrib too informed Ram about his enmity with Bali. They vouwed before fire that they would help each other.


1)       In was agreed that Ram would kill Bali and make Sugrib the king of Kishkindhya. In return Sugrib would extend all kinds of help to rescue Sita.
2)       According to the plan, Sugrib challenged Bali to a fight. A fierce fight took place between them. To keep his promise, Ram from behind the tree cast arrow and killed Bali.
3)       As a result Sugrib ascended the thrown of Kishkindhya but Bali’s son Angad was made the crown prince.
4)       On the other hand, under the leadership of Hanuman, monkeys went everywhere in search of Sita. They made thorough search in the forest and in the mountain.
5)       In one of the mountains Hunuman met Jatayu’s elder brother Sampati. He said, “Ravana, the king of cannibal, has kept Sita imprisoned in Ashoka garden of Lanka. To go there they have to cross the sea.”
6)       According to his instruction Hanuman proceeded towards Lanka with his people Endless sea came to their sight.

 Sundara Episode

1)       They could see water only. It is possible to cross such a huge see? The monkeys sat dejeetedly on the shore.
2)       But Hanuman said, “I shall be able to cross.” All were taken a back at his words.
3)       Then Hanuman climbed up the top of the mountain Mahendra. From there he gave a long jump and crossed the sea.
4)       Reaching Lanka Hanuman changed his size to a so small one that the guards did not know how he crossed the main gate.
5)       He searched for everywhere in Lanka. He finally found Sita in Ashoka garden.


1)       Hanuman disclosed his identity and handed over Ram’s ring to her. Sita gave her hand ornament to Hanuman to give that to Ram. Hanuman offered her his wallet and look leave of her.
2)       Before returning Hanuman entered Ravana’s orchard and ransacked that. He changed himself into a huge size when the cannibals came to catch him.
3)       The cannibals with great difficulty captivated Hanuman. As a punishment they set fire to his tail.
4)       But Hanuman free himself easily. Then with the fire of his tail, he destroyed the cannibal kingdom.



1)       Hanuman jumped and crossed the sea again. He handed over Sita’s head anuament to Ram and informed him how Sita was imprisoned in the Ashoka garden.
2)       Ram and Lakshman with monkey army went to the sea shore for going to Lanka. But they were worried to see the wild sea.
3)       To pacify the wild sea. Ram began to worship it.
4)       But the sea did not calm down. Then angry Ram wanted to dry up the see with firearrow. He was afraid and told Ram that only Neel, son of Viswakarma, could build bridge over him.


1)       At the request of Ram, Neel came to build the bridge. The  monkey brought big stones and tree from far off places. The bridge was built.
2)       Ram and Lakshman along with huge army of monkey crossed the bridge and reached Lanka. He sent message to Ravana to return Sita.
3)       Bidhisan, Ravana’s brother suggested him to return Sita. At this Ravana asked him to leave Lanka.
4)       Bibhison, a man of principal, left the company of Ravana and joined Ram.

Lanka Episode

1)       The monkey army, under the leadership of Ram surrounded Lanka - Ravana went to his roof to see the authencity of the news. He saw everything for himself but did not any action to return Sita.
2)       Then one day rown prince Angad entered the court and insulted Ravana very much. He even snatehed the crown from his head.
3)       Meghnad, son of Ravana was expert in the use of various weapons. He cast arrow from behind the cloud and got Ram and Lakshman tied by snakes.
4)       Ram remembered Garur, the carrier of Lord Vishnu to release them from snake-tie. Garur rescue them.



1)       Ram and Lakshman started fierce fight. Everyday innumerable cannibal soldiers died.
2)       Ravana had a brother named kumbhakarna. Every six months he woke up from sleep from a day. Ravana ordered to wake up at Lanka’s distress. Then the cannibals began to beat drums, brass-dish and bells to wake him up.
3)       Kumbhakarna felt very much for untimely wake up. He reached the battle field and gobbled monkey soldiers one after another. Monkey soldiers ran away in fear.
4)       When the monkey soldiers were running away in fear, Ram came forward and with a weapon given by Brahma cut his head.


1)       Meghnad began to cast arrows from behind the cloud. As he fought from behind the cloud he made the fight difficult for Ram and Lakshman.
2)       To win the fight Meghnad returned to palace and began burnt offering called ‘Nikumbhila’. As per suggestion of Bibhisan Lakshman entered the burnt offering room and found him alone and weaponless, killed him.
3)       Ravana was very angry at the death news of his son Maghnad. He reached the battlefield and with a weapon called ‘Shaktishell’, he made Lakshman senseless.
4)       Sushen, an ayurvedic physician of monkeys said, “Right at this moment a tree named ‘Bishalyakarani’ is need to be brought from Gandhamadan hill.


1)       Hanuman reached the Gadhamadan hill but could not recognise Bishalyakarani tree. So he was compelled and taking whole hill on his head, he came.
2)       At he action of medicine Lakshman got back sense. All heaved sigh of relief.
3)       Fierce fight took place between Ram and Ravana. It appeared that in that fight the whole earth would break. At last Ram killed Ravana.
4)       There was no fighter left in Lanka. In so big Lanka only crying and lamentation of the ladies who lost their husbands and sons could be heard.


1)       Bibhison ascended the throne of Lanka. Ram crowned him.
2)       At the instruction of Bibhison Sita was brought before Ram. Ram said, “Sita must pass fire test.”
3)       Virtuous Sita without any protest entered into fire. Fire-God Angidev himself freed from vice”.
4)       In the meantime fourteen year forest exile completed. Ram, Lakshman and Sita started for Ayodhya in chariot named ‘Pushpak’ drawn by swans by air.


Uttra Episode

1)       On an auspicious day Ram and Sita ascended the throne of Ayodhya. The whole Ayodhya was filled with joy.
2)       One day Ram got information that Sita having been in cannibal king Ravana’s Lanka for a long time, wicked persons were speaking ill against her. Ram was greatly hurt to hear this.
3)       To stop the scandals by the subjects, Ram ordered Lakshman to send Sita on exite. Sita took shelter in the hermitage of sage Balmiki.
4)       There after a few months she gave birth to two male children. They were named Lob and Kush.


1)       As time passed Lob and Kush grew up. Balmiki made them expert in weaponry. He taught them to sing Ramayana song.
2)       Ram was not at all in peace after sending Sita on exile. Thus passed few years. One day he decided to give a horse in sacrifice.
3)       Acconding to the rule shatrughna with the horse went out to conquer the whole world. He had with him a huge army.
4)       After wondering many countries when that horse came near the hermitage of sage Balmiki, Lob and Kush took it inside.


1)       Fight took place to recover the horse. By the arrows of Lob and Kush Shatrughna, Bharat and Lakshman fell on the ground one after another.
2)       Then came Ram with his trustful companion Hanuman and the army. But he too had to accept defeatat the hands of the two boys.
3)       Lob and Kush emerged victorious. They tied Hunuman took him to their mother.
4)       Sita Heard about everything from the Hunuman and beating her breast cried out. Out of grief she got ready to sacrifice  her life jumping into the fire.
5)       As a savior sage Balmiki came forward. He sprinkled such water that brought back the dead ones to life.


1)       At last the horse was freed and returned towards Ayodhya.
2)       Sage Balmiki alone with Lob and Kush came to Ayodha on the occasion of the horse sacrifice. As ordered by his horse sacrifice. As ordered by him Lob and Kush sang Ramayana song. The song made Ram worried for Sita.
3)       Sage Balmiki requested Ram to take back Sita. She was brought before the court. Ram said, ‘Sita has to give fire test again before the subjects.”
4)       To Sita it was matter of extreme humiliation. She remembered mother Basumati. Mother Basumati emerged piercing the earth and taking Sita on her lap went into the netherworld for ever.
